What does “sober curious” mean?

Unlike Dry January, the Sober Curious lifestyle has no strict rules or all-or-nothing expectations. It’s simply about exploring your relationship with alcohol and experimenting with drinking less (or not at all) for health, clarity, and self-trust, without committing to forever.

It’s an invitation, not a mandate. You don’t have to quit drinking to participate. You just get to be more intentional about why and when you drink. That flexibility is what makes sober curiosity feel accessible and inclusive, wherever you’re starting from.

Personally, I tried and failed at Dry January back in 2023. While it got me thinking, white-knuckling urges and navigating FOMO wasn’t sustainable. Months later, I tried curiosity instead, and it completely changed how I approached and viewed my relationship with alochol. Fifteen months later, I’m alcohol-free, but still open and curious about what my relationship with alcohol may look like in the future. Keeping the door open feels supportive, not restrictive.
