Fit less: an invitation to rest
The second half of The 12 Days of Fitmas is rolling around again, and I’m going to be candid with you:
I don’t have the energy or interest to create new fitness challenge posts right now.🤷♀️
Last year, this stretch coincided with the after-effects of planning a funeral. This year, it’s not acute grief…it’s just that all-too-familiar post-holiday malaise. The quiet fatigue that shows up after weeks of doing, hosting, traveling, planning, holding space, and keeping plates spinning.
Feeling Post-Holiday Malaise? Here’s a thing to know that helps:
- 🤷♀️ Feeling apathetic toward your goals at times is a normal part of any long-term fitness journey. It’s not a failure. 🙅♀️ It’s not a lack of discipline. Often, it’s simply feedback.
- 😴 Sometimes that feedback is this: you don’t need more motivation or discipline; you need more rest.
So, rather than forcing myself to create content or spinning in a hamster wheel, I’m honoring that signal. Instead of Fitmas I’m going to Fit less into the next few days. 😂
If you’d like to revisit last year’s posts to finish up the challenge, you can find them here: Days 7–8 and Days 9–12.
And if you don’t? That’s okay too!
If you’ve been a “human doing” all the things during the happy-hallow-thanks-mas-eve holiday hustle, consider this your invitation to stop doing for a minute and simply be.
Kick your feet up. Be a little selfish with your self-care. Rest, recuperate, and recover as we close out a very full year. ✅
When the calendar turns to 2026 in a few days, how do you want to feel? For me, it’s refreshed and rejuvenated, genuinely ready to take on the new year with its hope and intentions, not pressured or panicked about how overwhelmed I feel because I failed to truly recover during the time I needed it most.
I’ll be over here choosing rest. You’re welcome to join me. 😌 ✌️
