Just like this đź’Ş
🎵This song reminded me of something I used to say to my gym clients all the time:
“Just like that.”
Usually this came after we’d make a small adjustment to their setup or form. Once they found their groove, my job was super simple - encouragement and accountability to:
Keep doing it just like that. Rep after rep, set after set, week after week
The funny thing is, I think this applies to almost anything worth doing in life. 🤔
Most people assume progress comes from doing something extraordinary. More often, it comes from overcoming the friction to start, making a few necessary adjustments along the way, and then continuing to practice the skill long after the novelty wears off (aka when most people quit).
If you’ve ever wondered what that certain someone’s secret is (you know, the person in your life who exercises consistently, eats well most of the time, enjoys learning new skills, or steadily works towards and reaches goals without much drama), I actually rarely think it’s discipline on a superhuman level.
I think they got clear on where they wanted to go, and how much they were willing to risk to get there.
They overcame the anxiety and fear associated with starting.
Then they just kept going.
Not perfectly or effortlessly, but with intentionality and consistency.
Starting is hard; I’ll give you that.
But…once you’ve already done the hardest part, and proven to yourself that you can begin something new, what if the next step isn’t finding more motivation?
What if it’s simply showing up and doing the work?
Just like this. 💪🇯🇵 ✌️
