DWYSYWD 💪
DWYSYWD
Rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it?? 😂 🤣
Do What You Say You Will Do 💪
This may not surprise you, but as a child, I was a big fan of the motivational speakers that came to my school to encourage us to dream big and go after everything we wanted in life.
I always remembered one in particular, I think she may have been a Miss some-state-or-another pageant winner, and her little acronym - DWYSYWD - and its seeming meta-meaning as a palindrome (an acronym or word that reads the same forwards as backwards): the message to middle-school Becky was clear: be hella consistent and follow through to keep your word, because that’s what a person with integrity does, damnit! 😅
No lies detected
Sure, maybe as a middle schooler I was a little bit Pollyanna in my life outlook. (To be clear, I probably still am! And I don’t hate that about myself!) But, whether I’m revisiting a past part of me, or considering how I want to show up in life today, I have to say the same principle applies:
Do What You Say You Will Do
Even when no one else is watching. Maybe especially when no one else is there!
Why? 🤔
How else will you ever learn to trust yourself?
And, if you can’t even trust yourself to follow through on your own word…how is anybody else ever going to be able to trust you?
It may seem that small things, like committing and sticking to a new daily habit, to cultivate a new skill, to build up to reaching a goal are just that - small - but trust me: they are anything but!
It’s the tiny, intentional habits, stacked on top of each other, mindful moment to moment, day to day, year over year, that build into your identity.
So next time you think about skipping your workout, skimping on sleep, ignoring recovery, or eating mindlessly, just remember…you’re the only one who can make your dreams a reality.
It starts with you doing what you say you will do, even for small things. 💪 (& remember, that includes not over-committing to the sh*z you dont want on your plate 😉)!
